Whether Hartenbos is the place you first fell in love, somewhere to escape from the rat race of everyday life, or to get closer to nature, we all make special connections with different places we travel to during our lives. These are the places that make us who we are.
In truth Hartenbos was not where my wife and I fell in love but it is our preferred destination on the Garden route in South Africa.
Hartenbos and Mossel Bay are world-renowned for their moderate climate, friendly people and beautiful beaches, and nested in the Eco estate Hartenbos Landgoed is where you will find our self-catering home away from home.
Situated close to Restaurants, Gyms, Shopping Centres and Entertainment for the kid, our home offers 3 bedrooms sleeping 6\7 , 2 bathroom with showers and a bath, an open plan kitchen/lounge and a patio with built in BBQ\Braai. Our kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering including a fridge, box freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The lounge area has a flat screenTV with satellite connection for selected channels.
Full Dstv package can be arraigned but who wants to be stuck infront of the TV when the beach is over the dune. Hartenbos Landgoed also has access to a community Pool, Jungle Gym and Trampolines for the kids.
Mariaan and I (Kevin) found Hartenbos many years ago when we were invited by family on holiday. This was a popular destination for my wife when she was young as her family farm was in the Karoo.
Staying in Hartenbos Landgoed offers you a secure and tranquil environment situated on the spectacular coastline of the Garden Route South Africa. Nested between the towns of Mossel Bay and Grootbrak lies our perfect holiday town with an endless expanse of golden beach for walkers and anglers and a shallow, sandy lagoon that offers swimming and canoeing.
The town of Hartenbos lends itself to both quiet weekends away with your partner or family holidays, during school vacation the peaceful town becomes a bustling seaside destination. The village of Hartenbos started life as a farm granted to Esaias Meyer, a local farmer, as a reward by the Dutch East India Company after he helped shipwrecked sailors.
He called the farm Hart en Bosch (deer and bush). Most of the farm was later bought by the Afrikaanse Taal en Kultuurvereniging (Afrikaans language and culture organisation) and turned into a holiday resort for its members during the years of apartheid. Today it is still very popular with visitors from across the country and the world with thousands of people spend their annual summer holiday in Hartenbos.
Dolphin and seal watching are very popular, particularly during May through November and the river mouth is an active breeding ground for many sea birds. The bay of Mossel Bay is also one of the many birthing areas for Whales
During peak season, the Hartenbos main street is lined with colourful kiosks selling anything from seafood to clothing. There is a heated indoor pool, a supertube for the kids, amusement centre and many fine restaurants in the the newly build Hartenbos Seefront
